Terms and conditions for Foraging and Fungi/Plant ID Courses

Nature of the Course: Our foraging and fungi/plant identification courses are designed to educate participants about the identification of wild plants and fungi. These courses may include the consumption of prepared wild foods and tasting of wild foods where appropriate.

Educational Purpose: Participants are reminded that the courses are for educational purposes only and do not constitute formal culinary or botanical training.

Safety First: Foraging and consuming wild foods carries inherent risks. While The Foraging Mermaid strives to provide accurate information, it is essential to exercise caution when handling and consuming wild plants and fungi, particularly if you have animals or children with you, and participants take full responsibility for ensuring they and any dependants follow all instructions. Any issue or injury occurring due to actions outside of guidance is considered your responsibility and negligence alone.

Plant/Fungi Identification: Proper identification is crucial. Participants should not taste (plant & fungi) or touch (plant) any plant or fungi unless they are absolutely certain of its identity and have been advised it is okay to do so. The Foraging Mermaid accepts no liability or responsibility for any actions taken outside of courses.

Medical Considerations: Individuals with allergies, medical conditions, or dietary restrictions should exercise extra caution when consuming wild foods. Please ensure to disclose any relevant information. Consult a healthcare professional if you have any concerns about potential allergies or interactions. The Foraging Mermaid does not take any responsibility for individual allergies or interactions to wild food (this is an inherent risk of your choice).

Physical safety: Participants assume the risk that comes with walking in woodlands, meadows, or coastlines and are expected to be diligent and responsible for their own safety.

Liability: Participants acknowledge that they assume all risks associated with foraging and consuming wild foods during the course. The course organizers, instructors, and venue owners are not liable for any injury, illness, or adverse reactions that may occur. This is an inherent risk as many wild foods can have individual reactions.

Food Preparation: Food prepared during the course is for educational purposes. It is not prepared in a licensed kitchen and should not be considered restaurant-quality cuisine. Food prepared will have all ingredients listed if required so participants can make their own choice, and any declared allergies and intolerances may be taken into account, and it will be prepared by someone with food safety training. Participants consume it at their own discretion.

By participating in our foraging and fungi/plant identification courses, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this disclaimer and agree to adhere to the safety guidelines and principles outlined above.
